Cover
What it pays
If you are diagnosed with one of the 20 illnesses listed in the policy and survive 30 days after the first diagnosis, the sum insured is paid to you. How you spend it is up to you. The benefit is paid once.
The illnesses covered are: Alzheimer's disease, blindness, cancer, coma, coronary artery bypass surgery, deafness, heart attack, heart valve replacement, kidney failure, loss of limbs, major burns, major organ transplant, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis, paralysis, stroke, aortic surgery, benign brain tumour, loss of speech and Parkinson's disease. Each has a medical definition in the policy; some early-stage or less severe cases are not covered.
No benefit is paid for an illness diagnosed within six months of the policy start or reinstatement date. For cancer, there is also no cover if the cancer is diagnosed, or symptoms and investigations leading to it begin, within 90 days of the start or reinstatement date.
If you die while the policy is in force and no illness benefit has been paid, 10% of the sum insured is paid as a death benefit. Cover runs to age 70. Maximum cover is GYD 10,000,000 (XCD 1,500,000).
