Missed payments
What happens if you miss a payment
Every policy has a grace period after the due date, stated in your policy document. Pay within it and nothing changes.
If a premium is still unpaid at the end of the grace period and the policy has enough cash value, the premium can be paid as an automatic premium loan so the cover continues. The loan carries interest and is deducted from any benefit until it is repaid.
If there is no cash value to draw on, the policy lapses. A lapsed policy can usually be reinstated within a set time by paying the missed premiums and, depending on how long it has lapsed, giving evidence of good health.
The simplest step is to contact your office before the grace period ends. They can take the payment, set up a deduction, or explain the options for your plan.
