Fire and property claims in Guyana

What to do, in order

1. 01Make the property safe and report the lossFor theft, burglary or money losses, notify the police and note the station and the time. Then contact Demerara Fire & General on +592 225 8991-3 or [email protected].
2. 02Do not throw anything awayDamaged property must not be disposed of until the company gives permission. Photograph the damage as it is.
3. 03Complete the property claim formThe form asks how the loss happened, when and by whom it was discovered, whether anyone else insures the property and, for theft, what steps you are taking to prevent a repeat.
4. 04List every item and get estimatesFor each building or article, give the date bought, from whom, the original cost, the value at the time of loss, the replacement price and the amount claimed after salvage. For building damage, obtain tradesmen's estimates before any work is put in hand.

• Tradesmen's estimatesfor building repairs, obtained before work starts
